SPPTa MasterclassES

 The SPPTA Masterclass is open to students of all ages and abilities. Students apply by submitting a video of a performance of a piece they would like to work on with the master teacher. Each student who sends in an audition video will receive a critique from a judge and a point towards the SPPTA awards program. Out of the applicants, the judge will select 6 students ranging from the beginner level through advanced to participate in the Masterclass. All SPPTA members and their students are invited to attend the Masterclasses and benefit from the expertise and artistry of these gifted educators. NEW This Year: All applicants must include a $15 application fee to be considered for the Masterclass. Selected students do not pay an additional fee to participate in Masterclass.

*Students will receive award points, critique and opportunity to receive Honors and opportunity to be selected for the Masterclass.


Masterclass for 3 levels:

Beginner: Comparable to Faber Primer - 2B

Intermediate: Comparable to Faber 3A - 5

Advanced: Comparable to MMTA Contest Intermediate A/B and above


Video Instructions:

1) At the beginning of the video, students should introduce themselves by stating their name and age as well as the title and composer of the piece they will be performing. 

2) a) Students applying for the Beginner Level (comparable to Faber Primer - Faber 2B) should not exceed 1 minute of performance time.

b) Students applying for the intermediate level (comparable to Faber 3A - Faber 5) should not exceed 2 minutes of performance time.

c) Students applying for the Advanced Level (comparable to MMTA Contest List Intermediate A or higher) should not exceed 5 minutes of performance time.

3) The piece that is being performed in the audition video will be the piece that the student will work on with the master teacher if selected.

4) Please upload video to a platform such as YouTube or Google Drive and submit link in the online application form.


Two weeks before the masterclass, six performances, two from each level, will be chosen for the masterclass. At that time the teacher of each winner is notified and provided with the registration link as well as additional information.
